What is concrete engraving (the process)?
Concrete engraving is an exciting new process that entails the use of patented tools to physically engrave or cut designs directly into existing concrete. This process has limited required maintenance since it cuts designs into your existing concrete slab. Your imagination is the only limit to the possible designs you can request. Please see our list of products and services.
The process is very straight forward and not invasive with large machines, noise and a huge mess.
- The concrete is thoroughly cleaned
- Any necessary repairs are made to the surface
- The surface is acid etched ( only if using a water based stain)
- The acid etching is neutralized
- The surface is thoroughly cleaned again
- Stain is applied to the area to be engraved (one to two coats)
- The concrete is then engraved using our patented tools
- Engraving residue is then removed
- The sealant of your choice is then applied (one to two coats)
- Heavy traffic should be avoided for three days to insure that your art work has cured completely
Advantages over other hard service decorative enhancements such as pavers, stamped concrete, etc.
Pavers are very expensive and require continuous maintenance for; weed control, settling / unevenness, sealing and sand replacement. Additionally, if it is a new installation it requires permitting, removal of existing concrete and a large amount of disruption to your daily life.
Stamped concrete is less expensive than pavers however it is an overlayment that can crack, chip and delaminate from the concrete surface. It also requires color maintenance and repainting / sealing.
